During last week's radio show (http://contacttalkradio.soundwaves2000.com:8080/ctr/melissawest070908.mp3) we discussed different milk alternatives with our expert guest, vegan cook book author, Dreena Burton (http://vivelevegan.blogspot.com/).

Dreena (http://vivelevegan.blogspot.com/) and I are both passionate about the numerous milk alternatives besides soy milk.

First up is my favourite choice, almond milk (http://www.bluediamond.com/shop/natural/almondBreeze32.cfm). Almond milk is gluten, cholesterol and lactose free, an excellent source of calcium, vitamins D & E and a good source of vitamin A. We love it on cereal, in smoothies and tea and use if for baking.

Next up is hemp milk. Hemp seed nuts are a wonderfully nutritious source of essential fatty acids and amino acids (live plant protein). Hemp seed nuts are high in antioxidants such as naturally occurring chlorophyll and vitamin E. Hemp milk has a naturally occuring well-balanced ratio of Omega-3 and Omega- 6 Essential Fatty Acids. Dreena's favourite is Living Harvest Hemp Milk. (http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=655972&prrfnbr=950025)

Our final contender today is rice milk. My favourite is rice dream (http://www.tastethedream.com/). Rice milk is not a nutritional home run, however it does offer a good alternative to cow's milk.
