Let's talk a little bit about positive psychology and living from our strengths. Positive psychology is the study of the optimal behaviour of people at their best. Next week on Happy Hour we will be looking at the values in action survey and how living from your strengths can really help to improve your overall levels of happiness. Well known coach Carol Solomon says, "leveraging your strengths can immediately upgrade your life without feeling like you have to reinvent yourself."

Martin Seligman, one of the founding psychologists in the field of positive psychology explains that people do their best when they focus on "identifying and nurturing their strongest qualities, what they own and are best at, and find niches in which they can best live out these strengths." Based on this we know that people find success when they are doing things that they love and drawing on their natural talents.

You are the best judge of what your strengths are because you experience yourself working. When you use strengths, you feel invigorated. When you use weaknesses, you feel drained. You look forward to activities that use your strengths and dread ones that use your weaknesses. You are more likely to be successful and to feel satisfied after using your strengths than after doing something that uses weaknesses. You find it a joy to learn new skills or information in service of your strengths, while you can't seem to get any better in your areas of weakness.

Next week on Happy Hour a free hour of positive psychology group coaching on - August 5, 2008 from 9- 10pm EST, that's 6-7 pm PST we will be focusing on the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths Survey. Prior to the call I will have all those registered fill out a survey to determine their top strengths.
During the call we will explore some important questions including:
What are your strengths?
How can you capitalize on them?
What are your most powerful combinations?
Where do they take you?
What one, two, or three things can you do better than 10,000 other people?
We will also explore how your strengths have contributed to your most significant accomplishments in your life. Many of our greatest achievements are possible through our strengths.
