In 1993 over 4,000 people gathered to practice transcendental meditation focusing their electromagnetic brain waves in Washington. Their intention was to reduce homicide, assault and theft by at least 20 percent. Their meditation in fact reduced violent crime by 23.6 percent in the first four weeks.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama explains that responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. It lies with each of us individually. Peace, for example, starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us.
The purpose of the Global Mala (http://www.globalmala.org/) is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 on Sept. 21st an, Fall Equinox as the yoga world's offering to further the UN International Peace Day.
On Sunday September 21st we can choose peace. By creating peace within ourselves and by cultivating it within our yoga communities throughout the world we create a vibration that allows more to choose to align with peace rather than violence.
