Did you hear Oprah’s public confession this past week? For those of you who missed it, Oprah publically confessed this week to gaining over 40 pounds in the last three years. Much like everybody else, she says that life took over and she started to get overwhelmed.
Sound familiar? How many of us are rushing from dawn to dusk getting the kids off to school, working a full day, getting the kids to their activities and through their homework, putting supper on the table, trying to fit in a load of laundry. When on earth are you supposed to find a moment for yourself? It is easy to understand how many people begin to feel exhausted and overwhelmed.
Balance. It sounds like an impossibility. Like Oprah, many of us work too much without enough time to relax or have any fun. We work until we are exhausted and we don’t take time for ourselves.
Bob Greene, Oprah’s personal trainer says that when you’re not looking after yourself, food becomes much more attractive. We all have our numbing out strategies. Emotional eating is about trying to find fulfillment in food. Food becomes a crutch, a strategy to avoid facing up to what is not working in our lives. If food is a crutch or the go to solution when life has you down then my Freedom from Emotional Eating Telecourse (http://www.melissawest.com/index-15.html) is for you.
Over the last few months I have fallen in love with “Loving Kindness Meditation.”
May I be free from inner and outer harm
May I be happy and peaceful
May I be healthy and strong
May I look after myself joyfully
I too fall into the trap of meeting everybody else’s needs before my own. Towards the end of 2008 I noticed that I was allowing “life,” or should I say work to take over. I would barely allow myself time to groom or cook a meal.
Now a days, May I look after myself joyfully has become my mantra. Loving-kindness teaches us to treat ourselves with loving kindness. In order to treat others with loving kindness, I must start by expressing loving kindness towards myself by the decisions I make in my daily life. I deserve to spend an hour happily creating a meal that will nourish my body, mind and soul.
Success in weight maintenance is an ongoing thing. Bob Greene says nobody ever arrives when it comes to weight loss. If weight is a problem in your life, then it will be a problem for the duration of your life. It becomes a matter of how you are going to manage the problem.
There is this great weight loss commercial on the radio that says, “If you could have done it by yourself, you would have already.” Finding balance in your life and time for the things that really matters is a tall order, one that deserves attention. A personal coach can help you.
Through lifestyle coaching I help people evaluate their lives and their values. Looking at all the areas of your life from work, family, health, spirit, friends, personal development, home environment and fun, we evaluate your level of satisfaction and then assess where changes need to be made.
From there we plan. It is going to be impossible to find the time and resources to eat well, exercise and self care without some major planning. Through weekly coaching sessions I can help you manage your time and schedule time for important pieces that will contribute to your success such as meal planning, exercise, spiritual practices, and even some time for fun.
As a coach I help break your goals is to small, attainable action steps and hold you accountable to them. I will be your biggest cheerleader and support system. One of my clients continually tells me. The money I spent on coaching with you a couple of years ago was the best money I ever spent. I have my life in balance now and thanks to you I have the tools to keep it that way.
This January let me help you get your life back in balance with personal coaching. Meet with me over the phone once a week, with unlimited e-mails between calls. I will help you find balance in your life and assist you in making yourself a priority again. E-mail me at info@melissawest.com to set up your free consultation.
