Thai Yoga Massage
By Dr. Melissa West Host of Returning to the Body Mind Wednesdays 8-9 am PST
Thai yoga massage is an ancient bodywork therapy that has been taught and practiced in Thailand for over 2, 500 years. Thai Yoga massage is a healing technique that embraces the four states of mind loving kindness, compassion, joy and balance.
Thai yoga massage draws its influence from Tui Na, Ayurvedic Indian massage and Shiatsu. Thai yoga massage is a healing modality that blends elements of gentle stretching, deep compression, rhythmic movement, yoga postures, reflexology and breath-work.
Often referred to as “passive yoga”, Thai Massage is a natural therapy that relaxes muscles, increases energy flow, improves circulation, and stimulates nerves. Once the blood flow is stimulated, a rapid rebuilding and nourishing of the body’s tissues is a result. Thai Massage benefits: stiff, sore or pulled muscles and ligaments, back pain, arthritis, chronic pain or injury, internal organs, migraines and chronic stress or anxiety.
A client with blocked energy meridians can benefit from direct pressure on the affected area. Clients have report profound simultaneously relaxing and energizing effects on the body, mind and soul. Clients with limited mobility or injury can receive a wonderful and therapeutic massage with limited stretching and more pressing.
When you come for a Thai yoga massage, the practitioner will guide their client through a series of yoga postures, while pressing the muscles and stimulating the energy lines in the body with a palm, thumb, forearm, elbow or foot pressure. The massage itself is performed on a large, comfortable floor mate with the client wearing lose comfortable clothing.
“Now that yoga is so popular, Thai massage is riding along because it’s essentially yoga in application,” says Kam Thye Chow, author of Thai Yoga Massage. With Thai Massage, you get the benefits of yoga, without the work. Thai massage stretches and opens the body without exertion. “Somebody else is using their body weight to stretch you, so it’s possible to go beyond your usual limitations,” says Deanna Villa, owner of Thai Massage Toronto.
One of my clients describes Thai yoga massage as the perfect compliment to her yoga practice. Because of the exertion of the thai yoga massage practitioner you are able to go much further in terms of opening the body.
Since Thai yoga massage limbers up the body so much, it allows energy to flow more easily through the body. All the palming work along the energy lines of the body helps to release toxins and results in increased energy and clarity.
Thai yoga massage is beneficial for back pain, shoulder pain, insomnia, headaches, tension and stress related difficulties. It is extremely helpful for people who experience stiffening of joints, tendons and ligaments that occur with the natural aging process.
Each thai yoga massage is customized to fit the client. When you come for a thai yoga massage, you will fill out a form which determines about your primary health concerns, restrictions of movement, illness, and musculoskeletal pain. Your treatment will be adapted and personalized to suite your needs each and every visit.
This is what Karen had to say after coming for a Thai Yoga Massage. “The first word to pop into my mind when describing Thai Yoga Massage would be blissful! I loved the slow and rhythmic feeling as one movement flowed into the other. Melissa's awesome intuitive skills and open heart, combined with the gently assisted stretches left me feeling peaceful in mind, "wide open" and oh so flexible in body. I love that Thai Yoga Massage is adaptable to all body types, ages and levels of fitness. Its for everyone!”
Client after client, each person who comes to see me tells me that this is the best massage they have ever received. Experience it for yourself and book your appointment today. E-mail me at info@melissawest.com for availability.
