During the spring season we can connect with the creative energy that surrounds us in our natural environment. The ultimate creative act of birthing a baby historically spikes in the spring for both humans and animals. Trees begin to bud and plants grow in the garden. During spring we enter into a season of physical creativity which manifests itself energetically in our lives.

Not coincidentally creative energy in the body is located in the pelvis with the reproductive organs. Energetically, this part of the body is known as the second chakra. Here we gather energy for the creation of new physical things including having children which is seen as the ultimate creative process.

This creativity also expands in a more subtle way and is linked to creativity in a more general sense from birthing not only babies but also businesses, ideas and projects. Have you ever noticed you feel more ambitious and energized come spring? I just received an e-mail yesterday during this spring season from a friend who is thinking of birthing and creating her own business.

Creativity is given life from our passions, dreams and desires. We can look to what brings us pleasure and fulfillment to express ourselves creatively as an expansion of our own individuality. People can get really hung up on their expectations and beliefs about what creativity should be. In reality it can be anything from the beautiful presentation of a home cooked meal to creative parenting solutions when interacting with our children.

Sometimes failed creative processes and negative energy around birth, abortion and the death of children can block our creativity. When our creativity is blocked we can look to the second chakra. In the body, the second chakra encompasses the area of the pelvis and its contents including the sex organs, bladder, prostate womb, and sacral nerve plexus.

The element associated with the second chakra is water. Its formless quality encourages us to let go, flow, move, feel, yield. Water inspires us with the continuous movement and freedom needed to create. To be creative we must be able to express ourselves freely without fear.

We can open to those qualities of freedom, flow, movement and feeling through the body. Through yoga we can focus on postures which open the pelvis. Our postures should be reflective of the flow of water. Vinyasa helps to create flow in the body by linking breath and movement and opens us to the rhythms and cycles of nature. By creating movement through the physical body we open ourselves to internal creative expression.
