Traditionally, yoga was not taught in a classroom with many people practicing a standardized practice together. This is because there is no one practice that is ideal for all of us. No two people are the same, nor are their specific needs in a yoga class.

T.K.V. Desikachar, one of the world's most respected yoga teachers, based his teaching method is based on Krishnamacharya's fundamental principle that yoga must always be adapted to an individual's changing needs in order to derive the maximum therapeutic benefit. Individualized yoga practices are best tailored to a person's state of health, age, occupation and lifestyle.

As I say many times in my class, we must be clear on our reasons for practicing yoga. What are our intentions when we come to the mat? Yoga is an extremely powerful and transformative practice. What is it that you want to achieve? Do you want to address some dis-ease or injury in your body? Do you want to reduce stress? Are you interested in deepening your relationship with spirit?

Working with a teacher one on one can be a great way to create a personalized and highly individualized practice for self care. This form of practice will not give you an instant remedy, but unlike prescription and over the counter drugs, which are designed to cover up symptoms, over time yoga will provide slow and steady relief.

Therapeutic yoga utilizes the fundamentals of yoga to correct specific conditions of ill health within an individual. Sequencing of specific postures adapted to the individual as well as breathing and meditation techniques help to bring the student into a state of healing. It is possible to find freedom from chronic disturbances and symptoms of stress that affect the immune system and your emotional state.

Many of you know from personal experience of my expertise to address specific issues in a class setting such as: insomnia, upper back neck and shoulder pain, PMS, self love, liver, kidney, spleen, adrenal health, digestive health, energy flow, anxiety, spinal health, breathing, immune system, neuroendocrine system, back problems, detoxification, lymphatic system, pregnancy and labour preparation, creativity, increased sexual desire, depression, chronic illness, specific injuries, tight hamstrings, knee problems, hip issues, thyroid issues, back problems and the list goes on.

Because of my ability to address specific injuries and chronic illnesses I have decided to offer one-on-one personalized yoga and pilates sessions, tailoring these private sessions to the physical, mental and spiritual needs of each individual.

Individualized sessions allow me to consult with the specific needs of the individual and create a personalized yoga practice designed to meet those needs.
