TIME TO STOP AND STARE (by William Henry Davies 1871 – 1940)

(hand-written by my dad in my 6th grade graduation album. oh if he could only know how it stayed with me)

What is this life if full of care
We have no time to stand and stare?
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep, or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

and of course,

Auguries of Innocence - William Blake (1757-1827) (excerpt)

To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour

Beautiful Poems! Thank you for sharing!!

Poignant, Powerful and Well Worth Remembering!

We, as a species, spend so much of our time racing through life that we forget that the simpliest pleasures and greatest lessons lie right before us, waiting patiently for us to see. We believe that by running and rushing we get more in - attaining more of what we believe we either need or want, yet it is in the opposite that we accomplish whatfeeds our souls.

Learn from sheep and cows......Stop and stare!
