One Again: A True Story of a Different Kind of Forgiveness
LInda Jean McNabb Forgiveness. Easy to say. Harder to do. Especially for a woman who had a mentally and physically abusive father. Was molested as a child. Had a thirteen year old brother die tragically. Was gang-raped at the age of thirteen. How would you live your life? Devastated, with years of self destructive behavior, substance abuse, suicidal depression, adultery, looking for love in all the wrong places, poverty, promiscuity, homelessness, even prostitution, Linda McNabb moved through her adulthood broken and clueless. With a sharp sense of humor and inc...

Secrets in the Fields: The Science and Mysticism of Crop Circles
Freddy Silva Most people think crop circles are a relatively new phenomenon created by Doug and Dave, the crop-circle hoxers. They'd have to have been awfully busy to create them all - in the last twenty years there have been almost 10,000 crop circles documented. Crop circles have appeared as fractels - a design previously only created by computer. Other patterns have been insects, mandalas, Celtic crosses and the spiral helix of DNA, all done on a masssive scale. And they appear in seconds - eyewitnesses say 10-15 seconds is not uncommon. Dot to Dot presents: AdaptAbility: How to Survive Change You Didn't Ask For.
"Change is hard," we say, and it is even harder when change is thrust upon us. In today's tough times, we may be forced to reinvent our career or downsize our lives; at any point in life, we may lose a love or a dream. Our first reaction to change we didn't ask for may be to rail against fate. But what if we could see past today's turmoil and spot the opportunities that lie within unasked-for change? That is the promise of AdaptAbility, bestselling author and executive coach M. J. Ryan's paradigm-shifting new book on not merely surviving but thriving when change is required.
Why is it so hard to accept change? Paradoxically, it is for the very reason that our brains usually work so well; we are designed to learn something and make it automatic. The problem is that when circumstances change, our "efficient" brains keep trying to do things the same old way. In AdaptAbility, Ryan provides strategies to retrain your brain and optimize your response to change, step by step: by first accepting the new reality, then expanding your options, and finally, taking effective action. She offers cutting-edge tools for becoming calmer, less fearful, and more flexible, creative, and resourceful in your thinking. Best of all, as your "adapt-ability" increases, so does your confidence that you will be able to face whatever life sends your way and find new ways to flourish.
Bestselling author M. J. Ryan is one of the creators of the Random Acts of Kindness series (over one million copies in print) and the author of The Power of Patience, Attitudes of Gratitude, and This Year I Will...How to Finally Change a Habit, Keep a Resolution, or Make a Dream Come True. She was the founder of Conari Press and its publisher for many years, and is now an executive and life coach with Professional Thinking Partners. She is a frequent workshop presenter and keynote speaker, and has done corporate trainings for Microsoft, Royal Dutch Shell, Frito Lay, and the Department of Defense, among others. She will launch a new training in “Change Agility” when the book appears.
M. J. is a columnist at Health magazine, a contributing editor for Good Housekeeping, and an expert on many websites about life change, including Intent.com, learnfrommylife.com, soundwiseonline.com, first30days.com, and selfgrowth.com. She is the change advisor for TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly); a weight loss support group with 200,000 members in the United States. M. J. has appeared on the “Today Show” and in the New York Times and other major media, as well as having appeared on 1,000 radio shows including public radio. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and daughter.

Dot to Dot: Creating Global Community presents:
Lucky Girl: A Memoir
Mei-Ling Hopgood is lucky. She was given away by her Chinese birth family; but with the help of a benevolent nun, and the determined persistence of Chris and Rollie Hopgood, Mei-Ling overcame the many obstacles of a private adoption—a slow, informal, and disorganized process that preceded the international adoption agencies in place today—and eventually came into loving arms and a new home that afforded her every opportunity.
Mei-Ling became a big sister, attended college, studied journalism. She felt lucky to have escaped a life of poverty in Taiwan. Then one day, her birth family made contact in The Year of the Ox—Mei-Ling’s birth year; she was 23. The phone call leads to a reunion in Taiwan, and the beginning of a physical and emotional journey full of joyful discoveries and new friendships—but also dark secrets: obsession, infidelity, and shadowy death.
Mei-Ling gradually learns to love her birth family, accepting the ironies of fate, of love and loss, and unintended consequences that compose every family. Her writing is clear and fluid and will sweep you into its powerful story. In 2009, the auspicious Year of the Ox has cycled once again—and with the publication of Lucky Girl, it’s sure to be a banner year for Mei-Ling.
“Mei-ling superbly contrasts her comfortable, American suburban life with the alternate universe of her Chinese birth family.”
“A wise, moving meditation on the meaning of family, identity and fate.”—Kirkus
“Mei-Ling Hopgood's riveting memoir traces a young woman's journey to understand the forces that shaped her life. Heartwarming and addictive, LUCKY GIRL captures the beauty-and the luck-of finding home.” —Danielle Trussoni, author of Falling Through the Earth
“Mei-Ling superbly contrasts her comfortable, American suburban life with the alternate universe of her Chinese birth family. Along an often emotionally harrowing journey, Mei-Ling struggles against cultural and language divides to discover a murky, often disturbing family history stemming from her birth father’s obsession for a son. The result is a compelling, honest and very human tale about self identity and the complex concept of family.” —Kathleen Flinn*, author of The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry

DOT TO DOT: CREATING GLOBAL COMMUNITY
"Turning Crap into Compost: How to survive rejection"
Bay area writer, Mary Patrick Kavanaugh, recently put to rest her grandiose dreams of publishing contracts, movie options, book tours and a guest spot on Oprah Winfrey Show at an extravangtly held funeral service on Dec. 6th, 2008, for her rejected novel, Family Plots: Love, Death, and Tax Evasion. Guests at the funeral were invited to bring remanants of their own dead dreams to bury with the author's dashed hopes. Friends and family, sick to death of hearing about "the book" supported her in her effort to just self-publish and move on. In fact, the jacket of the book displays a shiny gold seal that states, "Awarded Sixteen Rejections from Prominent NYC Publishers 2008".
Family Plots was pitched as a "fresh and funny autobiographical novel about a young mother trying against all odds to create a normal family life with her new husband, a criminal attorney- who it turned out- was committing a few crimes of his own." Despite a snappy query letter that opened numerous doors, editors read it, loved it, but decided they just weren't ready to take a leap of faith on an unknown writer.
From this enlightening experience, Kavanaugh has decided to take her knowledge of the changing publishing industry and her own personal life story, which is the basis of her book on the road. "There are alternatives to mainstream publishing as well as the resurrection of dead dreams...whever those might befor each of us," expresses Kavanaugh. Her goal is to bring her idea of turning "Crap into Compost" to the public arena and get the discussion going on how we can overcome disappointing hurdles and creatively move on to other things in life that give us fulfillment. As Kavanaugh has recently found out....it's not just about the book....it's about letting go of expectation long enough to see a situation with a new perspective.
Mary Patrick Kavanaugh has a lively work history that includes time served in a wide range of professions, ranging from private investigator to Avon Lady. Being bossy and entrepreneurial by nature, she has spent the majority of her adult career providing executive management and strategic marketing planning for start-up businesses and organizations.
A writer since the age of eight, Mary's award-winning creative nonfiction has been published in Alligator Juniper, Room of One's Own, San Jose Mercury News, and the San Francisco Chronicle. Her professional writing has appeared in numerous trade journals. Mary is the 2003 recipient of the nonfiction award from the Soul Making Literary Competition sponsored by the maerican Pen Women, and winner of a 2003 honorable mention. She has been awarded writing fellowships at The David and Julia White Artist colong, Hedgebrook: Women Authoring Change, and The Vermont Studio Center. She recently published her first book, "Family Plots: Love, Death, and Tax Evasion."
Despite public displays of disappointment over the rejection of her novel by sixteen different publishers, the author celebrates having one perfect daughter, one happy marriage with a loving (now deceased) husband, one well-adjusted cat that perfers to live with her aunt, a great day job, and a confusing, yet fun, personal life. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of San Francisco, a BA in History from San Francisco State University, good teeth, and an excellent credit rating.

"Give Peace a Deadline: What Ordinary People Can Do to Cause World Peace in Five Years"
with Nathan Otto and Amber Lupton
For centuries, war has plagued the world. What would the Middle East be like without conflict and war? It is almost difficult to fathom what it would be like without the tensions, consequences and casualties that wars plague us with. Time, money, lives and efforts are spent and wasted due to the absence of peace. Many have tried and many have failed but visualize what can be accomplished if peace was present. All efforts would be concentrated on:
- Eliminating poverty and hunger
- Curing most diseases
- Ending violence and crime
- Saving the global ecosystem and stave off climate change
In their new book, Give Peace a Deadline: What Ordinary People Can Do to Cause World Peace in Five Years, Nathan Otto and Amber Lupton hope to make the elusive dream of peace a reality. By adopting "action through access," a trailblazing approach to activism, the authors build on technological advances in both communication and collaboration to present a well-defined plan to end global conflict. Come join host Catherine Bradford as she welcomes Nathan and Amber for what is no doubt to be a stimulating, inspiring and life changing conversation!

"Bring Yourself to Love"
with author, Dr. Mona Barbera
Why is it often so hard to connect with the person you love? Have you repeatedly tried to change your partner, but it never worked? Why is it that so often we long for love and that deep sense of connection to a special person and yet find failure and lonliness time and time again. What is it that we don't see, or are missing? Is it coming from the outside? Do our social traditions and patterns of behavior keep us separated from true intimacy? If love is the center of all things, spiritual, physical, emotional, then why does it seem so difficult to find and keep. Come join Catherine Bradford as she welcomes Mona Barbera, PhD as she discusses her new book, "Bring Yourself to Love: How Couple Can Turn Disconnection Into Intimacy".
Dr. Barbera is a licensed psychologist practicing in Boston, MA and Providence, RI. She specializes in couples therapy, and provides workshops for couples and for couples therapists. She is an Assistant for Internal Family Systems.

Dr. Barbara Stone, "Invisible Roots: How Healing Past Life Trauma Can Liberate Your Present"
I have asked Dr. Stone to join me once again (recently interviewed on the Wellness Roadshow) in order for us to deepen our discussion about healing through techniques which reveal possible past life traumas, as well as identifying possible attachments of earthbound spirits. In your recently released book, "Invisible Roots", Dr. Stone takes us into the deeper realms uncovering links to traumatic past lives, and to spirits of the deceased who have not been able to move into the Light because of emotional turmoil. Dr. Stone has discovered that in treating the wounds of past lives, the presenting problems disappear. Using a technique she calls, Soul Detective, she can test the unconscious mind through muscle testing, accessing sometimes hidden information about events and traumas that took place in previous incarnations. Through her great intuitive skills and wisdom as a pyschotherapist she has helped hundreds find relief from many present day problems.
Dr. Stone is a workshop presenter, public speaker, and psychotherapist in private practice. Her first book, 'Cancer as Initiation: Surviving the Fire" she gives us an autobiographical account of her holistic approach to recovery from this illness. After recovering from cancer, her clinical work took an unexpected turn as clients began to bring past life trauma into the therapy office. Since nothing in her education taught her how to deal with these issues, she searched the literature base and sought help from colleagues. Dr. Stone studied depth psychology at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, and holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.

"The Long Baby Boom: An Optomistic Vision for a Graying Generation"
with author Jeff Goldsmith
Wednesday evening I have the pleasure of welcoming Jeff Goldsmith, author of The Long Baby Boom: An Optomistic Vision for a Graying Generation to Dot to Dot. Regardless of age, but especially for those of us who are called "Baby Boomers" this conversation will no doubt be an eye opening, serious and inspiring one. One of my mottos is, "If you don't like the way something is......change it." That goes along with the old adage, "Where there's a will, there's a way."
