The history of Fort Mifflin: Only a few minutes from historic downtown Philadelphia lays the only Revolutionary War battlefield completely intact. Located on the scenic Delaware River, Fort Mifflin was originally built by the British in 1771. It is the site of the largest bombardment the North American continent has ever witnessed. In 1777, during the American Revolution, a valiant five-week battle took place when the British Navy attacked Fort Mifflin on Mud Island. The British had the garrison of approximately 400 Continental soldiers surrounded from three sides. Attempting to open the supply line for the British Army already in the Rebel capital of Philadelphia, the British shot over 10,000 cannonballs at the Fort, causing the garrison to eventually evacuate. Over 150 Continental soldiers died as a result of the battle. This allowed General Washington and the Continental Army to repair to their winter quarters in a place called the Valley Forge. Too late in the season for British General Howe to chase them, the garrison at Fort Mifflin thus extended the war and allowed the American army time to regroup until the spring of 1778. Embossed with words of "Peace" in many languages, resonating a universal desire for the lessening of hostility. The Peace Prevail Project - Creating art for me is a process of going within, accepting the images as divine gifts and receiving the how to manifest the end product. Nancy Tursi will be having guest - Stephane Wuttunee Author/Speaker. Plains Cree and French Canadian author and storyteller Stephane Wuttunee has always had an enduring and profound love for the great outdoors. And this passion was recognized and nurtured early on by his parents and relatives, who would often bring him along into the wilderness to go fishing, hunting, and watch wildlife. Always watchful and guiding in their influence, Native elders instilled early on into Stephane a strong sense of respect and empathy for the natural world – along with a philosophical and spiritual outlook.
In 1991, Stephane and his brother Leslie traveled by canoe from Edmonton, Alberta to Quebec City – a journey of 2,400 miles. In 1992, Stephane became the Emcee for the First World Indigenous Youth Conference, and in 1993, he traveled to New Zealand and Australia to assist in the organizing of the second one. For a six-year period, Stephane also lived and traveled with the James Bay Cree in northern Quebec. His repertoire of animal calls include over 21 different calls and he is capable of surviving anywhere with only a knife and set of matches. Much of what he knows in terms of wilderness and spiritual survival came from the influence of his elders and relatives. Though he now resides in the province of Quebec, Canada, he has lived in nearly every Canadian province and territory.
