Susan's Awakening
This is the story of how I became a psychic medium.

What began as routine dental work in February of 1997 escalated into a near death experience that changed the course of my life. I am not attributing the NDE to the dental appointment, but it was during this time frame there was a marked change in my physical health.

Over the two to three weeks following my visit to the dentist, I noticed a decrease in my energy and an increase in my weight. I lost my healthy skin tone, and family members began commenting on my appearance. I really became alarmed when I started having difficulty breathing and asked my son, Jaime, to take me to the hospital. I thought I was having a heart attack, but the doctors found nothing wrong and sent me home.

The day after I went to the hospital, my situation worsened and I developed a "gurgling" in my throat. Again, I went to the hospital and, again, they found nothing wrong. My son suspected that I was suffering from the stress of a difficult marriage, but I felt it was something more. My fears were soon proven true.

The following morning my maid came in to find me in bed without the strength to walk. She took one look at me and whispered, "Muerte," the Spanish word for death. Then, in English, she said, "We've got to get Jaime to take you to the hospital, you're dying!"

The next thing I remember is Jaime being there and whisking me off to the doctor. When we got to his office, I could tell by the look on the doctor's face that something was seriously wrong. I was then sent to another doctor, who immediately admitted me to the hospital. I was put on a twenty-four hour watch and given an IV drip.

Over the next few days, several types of doctors visited my room and left without knowing any more about the cause of my condition. Finally, a cardiologist came to my room and performed a heart echo, which led to me being admitted to the Coronary Intensive Care Unit. The hospital called my family that same night and told them to come right away, since the doctors weren't certain if I would be alive in the morning. However, they still did not know what was wrong with me.

The details get foggy at this point, as I was on heavy medication and everything was happening so quickly. I know I was hooked to a heart monitor and a finger oximeter that was monitoring my oxygen level. The next thing I recall is someone saying, "Time of death is 7:43 a.m." I distinctly remember turning to someone and asking, "Why are they talking about the time I was born?" My birth time is 7:43 a.m.!

The entire episode is still somewhat of a blur. Some details are very clear, while others aren't. I had no out-of-body experience, saw no light at the end of a tunnel, saw no angels, and did not talk to God. None of that. I just remember being very sick and not fully realizing how sick I was until I saw the faces of my family. Later, the doctors told me that sixty to seventy percent of the left side of my heart had been damaged, which led to congestive heart failure. I had flatlined for several minutes. Subsequently, I was told I needed a donor heart and my name was added to the list.

I stayed in the Coronary ICU around ten days. From there, I was transferred to the cardiac floor, where I first started "channeling" people from the "other side." I did not hear voices in my head. Instead, somebody would be standing next to me and the information would "flow" from them to me. Of course, since I was taking eighteen pills a day, I wasn't sure if I was just hallucinating. I did notice that doctors, nurses and other hospital staff kept visiting my room, and as they came into the room, information came in with them.

When my own doctor of seven years came to my room for the first time, I said, "George, I don't know what's going on with me or what's happened, but there's something different about me. I'm talking to people who have died and getting personal details on people who are coming into my room without them telling me!" I then proceeded to channel information about George.

When I finished, George said, "You need to go to a metaphysical bookstore or see someone to talk about your experience. Most doctors wouldn't believe what's happened to you because it's not in the textbooks, but I've known you for several years and I'm seeing a difference in you. I know you don't understand it, and I don't quite understand it either, but there is something that has happened here that's life-altering."

After I left the hospital, I still didn't know what had happened to me and metaphysics were nothing more than idle curiosity. However, while driving by a new age bookstore one day, I was drawn to go inside. After speaking with the owner for just a few minutes, she offered me a job and gave me the keys to the shop!

I knew nothing about astrology, numerology, the Tarot, or any of the other esoteric subjects. It was a new world, and I learned quickly. The environment of the bookstore brought out my new psychic ability and I was able to "know" what the customers wanted without being asked. I also knew why certain stones were good for certain problems, and which one a customer needed. Sales in the store increased as word of my ability spread. Everyone, except me, believed I had a gift.

I eventually left that bookstore to work at a larger one. Again, my sales sky-rocketed as I psychically tuned in to what customers wanted. The people I worked for continually told me that I was channeling information, but it was still difficult for me to accept. Customers would call the store to make sure that I was there before coming over. I would put the "perfect" book, crystal, necklace, etc., in their hands without being asked, and tell them what I was picking up on them. Even after all this, I still had not come to terms with myself being a psychic.

A good friend who read Tarot cards encouraged me to get a deck and learn to read them, so I bought a deck and began reading them for myself every day. Using a book of interpretations for reference, I would write down what the book said. After awhile, I noticed that my daily readings were describing what was happening in my life.

Other people would ask me to read their cards, to which I would decline saying that I read them only for myself. One particular day, a friend of mine insisted that I read her cards and she persuaded me not to use the book to interpret them. So I gave her a reading and it literally blew her away!

After about a month of readings and channeling information, I accepted that people from the "other side" were actually communicating through me. I had witnessed the expressions on people's faces when I provided them with details that, logically, I should not have known. I was finally convinced that I was a psychic medium.

Word-of-mouth brought more and more people to me for readings. When a client of mine needed a reading while I was out of town, she insisted I give her one over the phone. I had never given a reading over the phone before, but I found I was able to get the same information whether the person was present or at a distance.

As time went by, I became more comfortable with my abilities. I continued to develop spiritually, while advising clients on matters regarding everything from personal relationships to career and finance. I gained a certain satisfaction in knowing that I was able to touch so many people's lives and help provide closure for some of them.

Today, I continue to give readings over the phone and have many clients.
